75 ohm Low Loss Serial Digital Coaxial Cable

This 75 Ohm serial digital coaxial cable is a low loss version with an overall diameter of 6.80mm developed for video use over extended transmission lengths which makes it ideally suited for loger S/P dif leads. This cable is available in 1 colour only (cyan). As this cable requires a solid centre conductor there is no benefit to be gained in manufacturing a PVC type for enhanced flexibility so in common with most other UK suppliers this range is available only in Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH). Please note also that the specification of this cable will be subject to further improvement as the manufacture of the cable insulation is moving to precision gas blown foam skin polyethylene.

Materials:
Van Damme now use a higher purity oxygen free copper for the conductors - Ultra Pure Oxygen Free Copper (UPOFC). The use of this material further improves the conductivity of the cable resulting in faithful and accurate digital information transmission. Foam skin polyethylene is used for the conductor insulation. This special insulation is made up of individual pockets of inert gas suspended in polyethylene, resulting in a low dielectric constant and most importantly low capacitance. The skin refers to the outer layer of the insulation, which forms during the extrusion process. This skin is harder than the layer of insulation below it ensuring that the conductor is well protected. The dielectric constant of foam skin polyethylene remains stable over a wide frequency range, essential for transmission of digital signals. Other relevant properties include good stress and temperature resistance.

This serial digital cable is dual screened with an aluminium polyester foil overlaid with a braided bare copper screen with 94% optical coverage. This dual screen is essential in order to achieve the required attenuation at the higher frequencies associated with digital video signals. The cables are oversheathed with a special LSZH thermoplastic compound SHF-1.This compound adheres to the regulations laid down in IEC 60092-359 for halogen free materials for telecommunications cabling in shipping.
